Topic: Aurat March, the hot topic in town

News Review by: Uswah E Fatima

Few days ago, Sir Khalil u Rehman Qamar insulted Madam Marvi in a talk show. Marvi abuses on Twitter. Another Aurat march on Women’s Day, a lot of misconceptions and many misinterpretations. If we try to sum up the last week in Pakistan then it would not be wrong to say it was one heck of a battle between feminists and anti-feminists, yet we all fail to understand so many things. None of us can truly declare the idea of wrong and right, can we?

Objectives of the feminist movement

If you look at the main objectives of the feminist movement or the Aurat March phenomenon, then you would realize that they are not that wrong. And then came to the busters, the placards, so some women thought that getting the right to sit the way you want is more important than getting rights of inheritance, that’s where the feud somehow begins. They will surely be unaware of the concepts of culture and civilization, and I won’t lie I have been of the same group. Asking a western person to wear an eastern dress every day is pretty similar to what many women have started fighting for.
It is never a bad move when a group of people stand up to get their rights of liberation, but if those people stand up to challenge the cultural norms of a centuries-old society then things get fishy. People would ask themselves if this is some kind of foreign agenda or a real feminist movement.
This is a fight for freedom and respect or just merely a fight causing chaos.

Dear Humans,

No one is asking anyone, not to follow the feminist movement or not to go to the Aurat March, but before doing any action you need to be clear about what you want and what are you standing for?
Are you just being another follower of the crowd or do you actually stand for something substantial?
Dear humans, men or women, you matter, so do your choices, be clear about them and Stand for what really feels right to the heart, not to the world and its people because they change their minds the moment you leave.
